Fig 1.2 Draft 1 |
This was my first draft, I tried replicating the characteristic of Aksara Sunda while keeping in mind the thick and thin of the strokes. However, after feedback, I noticed my script was not going to work because it's too rigid.

This was the second version I did. However, it doesn't work which is why I scraped it out.
Draft 2

Fig 1.4 Draft 2 |
After feedback, I tried doing research on Maldives script and Jewish script and tried to put the characteristic of it in my typeface. I use curves on the tails and head of the script to make it more humane.

Since last week's feedback, Mr. Vinod told me to also do the English alphabet so that I could use the aksara and the alphabet with the same characteristic silmutaneously.

Fig 1.6 Draft 3 (27/06/21) |
After feedback from Mr. Vinod, he showed me a new way to do my typeface. Instead of using shapes, I was told to use the brush to make the typeface more human. Therefore, I use an oval brush to make this typeface.

Then, I applied it to the English alphabet letters using the same characteristic. I was told to do only capital letters, therefore; I didn't do the lower caps nor numbers.
Generated Font
From the typeface of the third draft, I started to put it onto a font generator software so that I could use it as a prototype to show Mr. Vinod how it would look like applied. Since my font lab trial has expired, I use bird font which I knew from my friend. It was easy to import and I could adjust the sizes inside the software itself.

Application
I applied my typeface to two things which are the address plate and bus banner.

Week 10
-holiday-
Week 11
Specific Feedback:
I show Mr. Vinod my proposal, He told me the Aksara Sunda and the logo redesign for wine and dine is the most interesting. Mr. Vinod told me that there was already a student that does Aksara Sunda into English alphabets, therefore, I could do a modernized script of Aksara Sunda with think and thick strokes.Week 12
Specific Feedback:
Week 12
- I need to make my script more humanize
- right now it looks too rigid. -make the English alphabets too
- right now it looks too rigid.
Week 13
Specific Feedback:
My aksara still looks rigid, I could perhaps use the brush to make the Aksraa instead of shapes.
Reflection
Experience:
I will not lie, however, my strength is not in creating fonts and formatting text. This was actually one of my weaknesses in which I already struggled before in semester 1. This time, I was struggling more because I need to create a typeface that's not rigid and has to be more humane overall. Although, I was happy I could challenge myself over my limit and out of my comfort zone. It challenged me to make my typeface looks decent and actually applicable.
Observation:
I observe I was hesitant at first because I could see I was not there at all. I did not understand nor imagined what I should do and what the final outcome would be like. Especially since in the last few weeks, a lot of homework from other modules was piling up with a short deadline. I figured this was because we had a lot of holidays and we were too relaxed in the beginning.
Findings:
I find myself quite surprised. I did not expect I could even finish this typeface at all. I'm struggling deeply and I'm the type of person who could see if my work works out or not. I could see straight from the beginning, it did not work at all. But I was stuck and couldn't find a way out. Thankfully, Mr. Vinod was able to help me with feedbacks which gave me hints on what I should do next step.
Since there's a student who did alphabets for aksara sunda, I decided to read and analyze her blog to figure out what action and steps she took to create her typeface. I also read the feedback session to acknowledge the mistakes she had so that I won't do the same.

Unicode |
I looked at a bunch of aksara sunda unicode and analyzed each of them on how they design their script. I could see there were several ways the aksara was attempted.

Website |
I looked at several websites and blogs on how to design a script, since I was confused about the steps and how to start. As I mentioned before, I didn't have a lot of experience in designing a humane script font design which is why I need to learn a lot more.
