Exercises & Lectures - Mr. Fauzi

Week 1 (24/08/20)

Lecture

Today we start our first class and greet our lecturer, Mr. Martin, and Mr. Fauzi. They conducted our class in a new system called borderless learning, where online and physical class progress simultaneously because of the covid-19 pandemic. It was an unexpected experience for me and everybody else.

Mr. Fauzi told us to read an online instruction module briefing on google classroom. He also posted on google classroom, a lecture YouTube video that we were told to watch which is how to use google drive.

Tutorial

1. Student creating a folder system on Google Drive.
2. Students register for Google Classroom.
3. Student creating E-Portfolio.

Then we were told to fill up the docs document that Mr. Fauzi has sent us. Which has information that needed to fill up such as portfolio link and Pinterest board.

Week 2 (31/08/20)

This week we don't have any class because of Malaysian Independence Day.

Tutorial

Exercise 2: Creating Image Blending (Double Exposure)

INSTRUCTION:

  1. Follow instructions on the Tutorial demo during an online class.

  1. Refer to this tutorial video to create a composition

  1. Create your own composition based on the requirements below:

    - Download all of the design elements from this link

    - Using Photoshop, create A4 size canvas

    - Trace and crop the images using the Pen tool.

    - Use blending modes to create double exposure effects.

    - Create 3 different composition (using the same design elements)

Here is the final composition that I make using the design elements that are required by Mr. Fauzi:

composition 1

composition 2

composition 3

Feedback

Good composition. Somehow the blending mode is a bit contrast, maybe you can adjust the opacity for the next exercises. Composition #3 is the best. Keep it up, Caitlyn!

Reflection

I had some trouble with the submission on google docs, the image I did submit was much more contrast and brighter than in the blog. However, as for this exercise I had so much fun creating the composition. This was a new experience for me since I never did this. I learned a lot about double exposure and how we need to play around with the opacity to create a more subtle transition.

Week 4 (14/09/20)

Lecture

Intro to photoshop 3: Match lighting, adjustment layers, filters

- sticking adjustment layers
- we can use multiple adjustment layers stack one on top of another
- using blend modes and opacity

Tutorial

Exercise 4: Composition study

Here is the final composition that I make using the design elements that are required by Mr. Fauzi:

Composition #1

Composition #2

Composition #3

Feedback

I love Composition #1 the color blends so well. Good job Caitlyn, you've improved a lot!

Reflection

For this task, I did more detailed research and planning. Although I was having a hard time, I decided to do my best to keep up. I also incorporate Mr. Fauzi's feedback to me for the last assignment. I play around with the opacity and I could see how I have improved as well.

Week 5 (21/09/20)

Lecture

Exposure and aperture

1. Exposure is how to control the light coming from a camera

2. Shutter speed is a measurement of time the shutter is open
-the shorter the time, the image sensor would be exposed to light is lesser
- motion -> different outcome
- recommend using a tripod -> not shaky

3. Aperture is how you can control the brightness of an image.
-the higher the number, the darker the image is projected
- clear depth of field (long) and short (blur)

4. ISO is to control the white balance/exposure of light
- assign to a certain number
- ISO 100 - 6400
- it is important to find out what is the right ISO
- try not to change much on photoshop

Week 6 (28/09/20)
