Project 2B - Photo Manipulation ( Make Yourself Into a Partly Cyborg)

Lecture

In class, Mr. Martin showed us several tutorials needed for this project. One of the lectures is photoshopping bora's leg into a cyborg. This is the technique I used for my project 2 assignment.

Research

Ideation

When I ask myself what I would accomplish if I had the opportunity to have a cyborg body part, one thought immediately appears to my mind, which is my body (upper body). It would be nice living without insecurity in this world. I had particular issues with my body and it has affected me physically and emotionally. I used to weigh higher than what my body should be. That moment was my darkest part of my life. It is a commonly known fact that women tend to have vulnerability for their body and how societies perceive them.

I craved to change since all my friends were skinny and I likewise cherish fashion. I wished to wear aesthetic clothing just like others do, but it was painful finding suitable clothes with this body. I suffered and managed to think negatively about this, up to the point that I tried not to eat and throw up. Therefore, I chose to incorporate this theme in my composition. I wanted to see how I could advance my body If I was a cyborg.

In the end, I decided to stick with Outcome 2 which I think holds more simplicity in the design. I also liked Outcome 1 however, for me it felt a little out of the place and unrealistic.

Feedback

Week 6

General Feedback:
- Try to sketch our design using a full-body shot that way it is easier to see
- create a creative concept instead of a classic portrait

Specific Feedback:
- full body is too complicated
- Mr. Martin liked fig 1.5, he said it's interesting
- I need to take a photo using a tripod that way I could take two photos in the same location.

Week 11

Specific Feedback:
- It's already good
- Make the second person darker than the first person. Right now It felt too exposed.
- Make the second person a lot darker

Reflection

Experience: This was a new experience for me. I had struggled with using photoshop because I had never used it before. Since this module requires a lot of photoshop skills, I had struggled in creating a fantastic result. However, it was a new and fun experience. I had the opportunity to turn myself into a cyborg.

Observation: I observe that I can do a lot of image manipulation with photoshop. There are a lot of possibilities that I didn't know about until today.

Findings: I find the extra excercise we did every week to be useful. I get to learn and use several different techniques that we can use in our project and even other modules. I also find the importance of adjusting brightness, contrast, and colour balance in a photo.
