Written Topic
In my book context, I wrote about the personal experience I had through life. Lately, I realised how different my life would be if I had taken a different path and decisions in life. I felt grateful that I could make the right choices, especially fighting for my chosen major. Since, a lot of my friends have actually changed their majors halfway through university. Therefore, I used this opportunity to share my side of the story of how I decide through life and explain the importance of choosing your own path in my story.
My writings will focus on creating the opportunity to make your own choices in life. There are several people that choose their decision based on their friends' or parents' opinion. In this book I wanted to show my mistakes and my reflection of going through the hard time as a teenage highschool. I would focus on the two big decisions that had happened in my life, such as moving to a new city and choosing my own major path.
After writing, we then need to identify 16 parts in our writing to turn into visualisation of the book. Here are my result:
Visualisation
References
For my visualisation, I thought of using photography. However, since my topic was to pave your own path, illustration would better suit the overall aesthetic. I wanted to do just a simple big picture illustration and since in the story I was looking back towards my memories;I wanted my visual to have a papery texture to evoke the old, vintage, looking back mood.
Try Outs (week 3)
I tried to use Procreate to produce my visuals. That way I could draw it on my iPad. This is my first attempts :

Drafts (week 4)
After feedback, I redo my drawing to be more abstract and I get inspired of surrealism and conceptual illustration, which was my favourite type of illustration. First, I made a small element which was optional and its up to me if I wanted to include this in my book or not.

This illustration is for the line " Every word the teacher wrote down seems like a calculation of algebra that’s impossible to solve." I made the conversation like a telephone string to symbolise conversation. However, from the similar image of intestine we could see how the conversation is difficult and all over the place.

This one is for the line "I was doodling a character illustration " It also shows how I'm doing two girl faces facing away from each other to show my contradict thoughts.

This illustration is for the line " dwindling as the clock ticked ever closer to the magic moment when the bell would finally ring". Instead of drawng a normal clock, I was inspired by alice in wonderland in which convey how I was bored and going in through time.

This illustration is for the line " My house sits on top of the little hill like a cupcake on a sugared plate. Strong stone bricks, creaky iron gates and a door of aged oak." Which was an exaggerated portrayal of how I view my house in my hometown. Cupcake symbolises a small and comfy home which gave me a pleasant feeling.

Feedback
Week 3
Specific Feedback:
The illustration style is already good. However, I need to be more abstract in my illustration in order to catch people's attentions.
General Feedback:
Think like a fine art artist, not a graphic designer. This is because fine art is more creative in drawings and abstracts.
Week 4
Specific Feedback:
These are much better!, Mr Vinod liked how I did the character using a tape head.
Reflection
Experience
I learn a lot of experiences in this task. It was fun to get back into illustrating and drawing. However, I was first perplexed since we couldn't present a direct work because it needed to be abstract in order to get others to read it. Although, it helps challenged myself to be more creative and go out of the box.
Observation
I've noticed that the more abstract the illustration, the more distinctive it is. This session has taught me a lot, including how to zoom in on specific items to make readers wonder what they seem. This elevates our creativity to a higher level of beauty and engagement.
Findings
I find myself thinking critically about how to make my artwork more surreal and abstract while yet retaining the substance of my tale. Meanwhile, after completing my work, I was pleased with how it turned out because of the quantity of abstract and how I was able to come up with specific concepts.
