Week 3

This week I showed my structure and Introduction to Dr.Jinchi. Dr.Jinchi went over my description structure and told me it was already good and I just needs to reword the 5.4 to relate more on the research questions. I was also briefed how 5.3 onwards I would talk about my primary data and I could mention my case studies in 5.2 because it's related to the theme and it would help my flow of writing. Dr Jinchi encourages us to incorporate general images to make our paper more interesting, and I was told to put the reference in picture credit section APA style. It was good of me to occasionally mention my research problem. Last, for 5.1.1 I need to switch the paragraph and move the branding on the first one, then went on talking about the design in the latter part.

Week 4

Dr Jinchi told me in 5.1.1 to have a description of the picture on the figure and a description on the text. It could be written such as "as seen in fig 1". I also could describe how design and branding are related using the picture as evidence. Dr Jinchi also told me to talk 1 paragraph about how design could influence perception ( show luxury picture example just from brand such as channel) in 5.1.2. Last, for small businesses I need to explain what is small businesses, what makes them small businesses and why is it different than large companies. Dr Jinchi also suggested having 1 paragraph to compare large vs small businesses, then relating them into Gaya and Gelato Republic.

Week 5

This week I show Dr Jinchi my literal review and discussion part. For the literal review, it was already good of me to write a little of the structure and method and I just need to improve more on the context of the discussion topic of the articles. In discussion part, for 5.3.2 I need to shorten some statements and Dr Jinchi reminded me to not use 1st person and instead use 3rd person. I was also reminded to be consistent with my whole writing. As for 5.3 I need to relate back the first line to the second line of my statement. Last, I need to insert more pictures and then guide the reader to look at the picture. For next week, Dr Jinchi asked me to have my improved literature review and finish up the rest of 5.3 and I should be good.

Week 6

This week I showed the last part of my discussion. Dr Jinchi went through my writings and pointed out several things I need to fix. Dr Jinchi told me to always relate back my relevant reference to the case study. I need to tie back to the brand. I also need to be more aim in my writing and reword some powerful languages that may hint bias. I also need to put in pictures and guide the reader to look at the picture.

Week 7

First, Dr Jinchi informs me to separate the file into three parts : Cover, introduction (abstract, acknowledgement, content) and body). This week I showed Ms Jinchi my abstract and conclusion. In my abstract, Dr Jinchi reminds me to maintain the research problem and don’t forget to mention it again from time to time. Then I should also mention the method I conducted In the abstract and findings and conclusion. Dr Jinchi also mentioned to put the total number of people that take my survey. Meanwhile, for the conclusion, I should start by introduction again the research problem and research method before concluding. Dr Jinchi said my concluding was already good and for limitation overall was already okay. I just need to add additional future research, such as adding more people to the survey and recommend a design project based on my research. Last, Dr Jinchi told me to put the blank questionnaire in the index.

Week 8

- Holiday -

Week 9

Today, in response to feedback, we looked at book design concept and reference. My overall concept for my book is playful while remaining clean and elegant. The color palettes 1 and 2 are nice and I could experiment with them and perhaps dropping some color, however the third may not suitable since the color is too bright. For design graphics,Concept 1 is good for consistency in visuals, but it doesn't seem as clean as concept 2. The second idea is more whimsical, with blobs and small graphic illustrations which would suit better of my concept. For typeface,  Dr. Jinchi prefers the Bebas and Playfair fonts, and I may experiment with both of them. In terms of layout, the first notion is more suited to the concept, while the second is too clean. However, I could experiment with a combination of visuals and a basic appearance.

Week 10

Dr Jinchi liked my graphical elements of the ice cream icons. Dr Jinchi also suggested me to shorten my title into two parts which is Design in branding with all capital letters and colon its effect on consumer perception of local small businesses in lower caps. For cover, Dr Jinchi liked the second draft better, as it has a good white spacing and not overwhelming while maintaining its playfulness. However, I should make an improvement on student number whether move it upwards or don't use it at all. Dr Jinchi also showed us imprint example of what we will need to have after title cover. Last, for my headlines, I should either lighten the background color or swap the background color with the icon color. I was told likewise to use lowercase for the text as it looked too heavy.

Week 11

This week we show our updated progress on our E-book for progression. I updated my book cover and started filling out the contents. Dr. Jinchi said my e-book already good and layout looks clean. Dr. Jinchi told me to have the table of contents and acknowledgement start on the right.

Week 12

This week we were briefed on project 3 which was a short journal version of our dissertation. Dr Jinchi showed us the template and typeface provided in which I must follow. Dr Jinchi then informed us about each of the structure of the short journal which comprise abstract, visual, keywords, introduction (overall about research topic, this paper will contains: methods), problem statement (include research Q and O), method, findings and discussion, conclusion, references (only what's cited on short paper alphabetical order), Appendices. Dr Jinchi also give us some ways to shorten our dissertation which was to summarize overall of our dissertation or focus only on one RO & RQs.

Week 13

This week, Dr Jinchi assessed my journal article. Dr. Jinchi reminded me when I submit the paper, I need to remove all the brackets and alter the header to black bold. I need to include how design is important in branding in my introduction, and Dr. Jinchi advised me to using past tense. Everything was already in order in terms of method, and all I needed to do was put the survey and visual analysis sample in the appendix and mention it in this section. There are some areas of the findings and discussion where I simply mention the secondary approach, while I need to incorporate data from my primary method as well. As for the conclusion, I need to go deeper into what led me to this conclusion; Dr. Jinchi suggested discussing the typography and other data I gathered through my methods. Overall, Everything is already in order, and I only need to make the changes by next week.

Week 14

This week is our last session, hence Dr. Jinchi went through my paper again to correct minor issues. Dr. Jinchi assisted me in adding a few phrases here and there and fixing structural concerns. Dr. Jinchi also said it was great that I incorporated both secondary and primary data in my data findings. Then, for reference, Dr. Jinchi reminds me to simply italicize the title of the book or journal. Finally, in the appendix, Dr. Jinchi advised me to eliminate some of the visual analysis and to not include all the survey questions, only the two screen pictures. Overall, everything is already ready.

Reflection

This module was quite interesting and exhausting. I gained experience in writing my own dissertations, which allowed me to think critically and improve writing abilities. This module helped me enhance my analytical and cognitive abilities by teaching me how to correctly search for credible sources and determine the authenticity of the material I needed for my project. I used my analytical abilities and inventiveness here since I had to contemplate the various aspects of the issue and accomplish the things that worked best for my dissertation. I have other assignments to complete while working on my dissertation. Through this method, I will acquire time management skills, such as planning and organizing, as well as how to prioritize my work and strengthen my critical thinking.

I would frequently have to adjust different aspects of the dissertation to match the demands of the project, or change my writing direction. I  learn to be patient in these situations and to adjust things that aren't functioning. This dissertation also strengthened my communication abilities through writing since, in many of the discussions surrounding my dissertation, I had to explain what my research project was all about in detailed. This entailed explaining my dissertation topics and ideas that readers unfamiliar with, as well as speaking in a manner appropriate for the audience I was targeting to understand what I was trying to say.

Even though it's easy to get caught up in the stress of writing a dissertation, I can't help but remember that I began this endeavor with a topic I was interested in. Sometimes I did not know what I was doing, but thanks to the assistance and patient guidance of my lecturer, Dr Jinchi, I could steer in the right direction and finished my dissertation.
